Urbanovo in May
May is one of the most beautiful months of the year in Croatia. This is true for all regions of the country. When it comes to wine, it is a perfect month to start visiting vineyards, especially in the warmest locations. In the continental part of the country, one should not miss Medjimurje.
This beautiful region lies just north of Zagreb. Here, they really celebrate May during what’s known as „Urbanovo“. It’s the perfect time to check out the new vintages of Pusipel (Furmint). Furmint made a name for itself in Hungary as it is used in Tokaji wines. In Medjimurje it is a staple of local wine making. It is used to make wonderfully crisp whites. It is no wonder they hold Pusipel festival in May, this year between 15th and 17th in Strigova. Three festival days are going to be full of activities. Local farmers will offer their produce, cheese, and cured meats. There is going to be plenty of evening entertainment options. Of course, great local wines will be the main focus.
„Days of open doors“ in local wineries are organised on May 22nd and 23rd. This will give all those who are interested a chance to visit local winemakers and enjoy the charming countryside surroundings.
29th of May is quite special. Wine Ball takes place in restaurant Trebotz owned by Jakopic Family, one of the renowned local winemakers.
